We are all sickened by the recent tragic deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery and the pattern of structural racism and injustice they represent. As the country wrestles with overwhelming grief and anger, we are called on even more as individuals and organizations to uphold our values and respect for one another. Identifying systemic racism, building bridges toward equity, having honest conversations and actions – each of these are critical in addressing and healing the deep wounds facing our community and nation.
While we do not have all the answers, we are steadfast in our commitment to foster a culture that listens to, supports, educates, and empowers all with whom we interact. We also realize that now is a time for us all to further strengthen our commitment to diversity and inclusion everywhere. Let’s come together to treat others ethically, remove our own biases, ensure everyone has a fair shot, and seek ways to lift others who may not have similar advantages. We cannot ignore injustice or wish away racism and bigotry. We must confront hatred head-on and uphold one another in times of great division and inequity. We are hopeful as a community and country real change can occur.
